Girl Scouts Patch Program

CVWD_GirlScoutPatchCVWD is proud to offer its all-new Water Conservation Patch Program to Girl Scouts within our service area. This program has been created to teach local Girl Scout troops the importance of conserving one of nature’s most essential resources: water. Girl Scouts will learn about their local water supply, how their community conserves water, and how to incorporate more water-efficient activities in their daily lives. Join CVWD in our efforts to save water for future generations and make conservation a way of life!

For questions, email education@cvwd.org.

Here are some of the requirements for Scouts in junior high and senior high schools:

  • List 7 different ways to conserve water inside or outside your home. Describe what you are currently doing to save water in your home.
  • Describe how the water cycle works and use these terms:  Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation, Transpiration, Infiltration, Percolation, and Runoff.
  • Research where the Coachella Valley gets its water for three different uses: drinking, farms and golf courses.
  • Time your showers every day for one week and keep a log of each shower’s length. See if you can take a shower in 5 minutes or less.
  • Research and describe an aquifer. Why are aquifers important?
  • Complete a simple water science experiment and describe how it works. Take pictures of the result and explain why you chose this experiment.
  • Conduct research and in 2-3 paragraphs describe the following:
  • How climate change has impacted Southern California’s water resources.
  • Why conservation is important in protecting these water resources.
  • What is recycled water and how does this help us conserve water?
  • Create a PSA (Public Service Announcement) about water conservation. This can be a poster, social media post, video or other creative outlet of your choice
