Outdoor Rebates


Front Garden Going NativeResidential Turf Conversion Rebate is $2 per square-foot as of May 23, 2023 (requires pre-approval)

Eligible project areas must meet the following criteria:

  • A green or golden-brown lawn with full thatch attached.
  • Must be a minimum of 200 square feet, up to a maximum of 10,000 square feet
  • Grass must be replaced with a combination of desert-friendly plants and permeable landscape surfaces with a minimum 25% plant canopy distributed throughout the converted area. Existing plants, trees, or shrubs are not considered as part of canopy coverage.
  • Artificial turf projects are acceptable.

Please review our Terms and Conditions before you apply. Projects are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. If you begin or complete your project before applying and receiving pre-approval, your project is not eligible for a rebate.

Please have the following items ready to upload:

  • 12 digit CVWD account number
  • Current photos of the area to be converted
  • Landscape plans must include a plant list, location of installation and quantities. View a quick guide.
  • HOA Approval letter (if applicable)

City Partnerships

Funds are distributed on a first come, first-served basis and will be reserved after the required pre-inspection has been completed by CVWD. No additional application is required. Please review our Terms and Conditions for program eligibility requirements.

Rancho Mirage

City of Rancho Mirage residents can apply for an additional $3 rebate, up to a maximum of 10,000 square-feet. See project requirements above or apply now

Irrigation Clock InstallResidential Smart Irrigation Controller Program

CVWD will install and program a free weather-based smart controller that automatically adjusts your irrigation system’s run time based on weather data. Limited to eligible customers. Using a smart controller reduces the amount of water used in the cooler months and increases the amount in the summer.  

CVWD will also recycle your old controller at no cost.

New sprinkler nozzleResidential Rotary Nozzle Rebate Program (requires pre-approval)

CVWD offers a rebate for conversion from less-efficient, traditional fixed or adjustable arc spray nozzles to high-efficiency rotary nozzles. Water is applied more slowly and uniformly to lawn and turf areas preventing misting, overwatering which can cause runoff, and allows more water to soak into the soil. The rebates are $4 per nozzle conversion up to a maximum of $2,000. This program requires pre-approval. If you begin or complete your project before applying and receiving pre-approval, your project is not eligible for a rebate.

Indoor Rebates


Indoor Water Conservation Kit 2020Indoor Water Conservation Kit 

CVWD’s free Indoor Water Conservation Kit is designed to assist homeowners conserve water inside the home. Free kits are available to eligible homeowners on a first-come, first-served basis. One Conservation Kit Per Household.

Washing MachineResidential Efficient Washing Machine Rebate Program

Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) is offering a residential rebate program for customers who install a new efficient washing machine (list available at www.energystar.gov). Residential property must be within CVWD’s service area. CVWD will offer a maximum of $150 rebate per installed washing machine. Washing machine must be ENERGY STAR certified with an Integrated Water Factor of 4.5 or less. Customer is responsible for providing a completed application, color photo of the installed washing machine, and sales receipt. CVWD will reimburse the customer after all program conditions have been met. Rebates are available on a first come, first-served basis.

Toilet in restroom GettyImages-968394836Residential High-Efficiency Toilet Rebate Program

CVWD’s Residential High-Efficiency Toilet Rebate Program is designed to assist homeowners who want to replace old toilets with newer, more efficient models. CVWD will offer a rebate of up to $100 per toilet and $10 for the recycling fee to eligible homeowners on a first-come, first-served basis (limited to the number of toilets in a household). Customers must recycle the old toilets. Customer must provide a receipt as proof of purchase and a receipt as proof of recycling. New toilets must use 1.28 gallons per flush or less.

Old toilets must be recycled at customer expense. Desert Recycling (PDF) provides this service locally and is located in Thousand Palms. The recycle charge is $10 per toilet.

Shower head waterResidential Hot Water Recirculating Pump Rebate Program

Tired of waiting on hot water? Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) is offering a rebate program for residential customers who install a Hot Water Recirculating Pump in their home. Hot water recirculating pumps save water and energy by reducing the wait time for hot water to arrive at the faucet or shower. CVWD will offer a maximum $125 rebate, or the cost of the recirculating pump, whichever is less. Customers must provide a completed application, color photo of the installed recirculating pump, and sales receipt. Funds are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
