CVWD increases customer assistance program

Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) has increased the amount of assistance available to customers through its Help2Others program.

Under the new guidelines, approved by the CVWD board on Tuesday, eligible customers will be able to apply for a $150 stipend through the assistance program once every 12 months beginning Aug. 1, 2021. The previous maximum stipend was $100.

CVWD’s Help2Others program is conducted in partnership with United Way of the Desert and was established by the CVWD board with an effective date of Jan. 1, 2017. It is funded by non-rate revenue and donations. United Way screens applicants for the program who receive the credit on their water bill. Customers can reapply for the credit every 12 months.

Participation in the Help2Others program increased 120% from 2019 to 2020, some of which is attributable to the COVID-19 pandemic. Both CVWD and United Way of the Desert increased outreach during this time.

For more information about the program, including eligibility guidelines visit, www.cvwd.org/H2OHelp

To donate to the program with a credit card, call United Way of the Desert at (760) 323-2731, and mention CVWD’s H2O Customer Assistance Program. You can also pay with a check by making it out to United Way of the Desert and designating it for the CVWD H2O Customer Assistance Program. Mail checks to United Way of the Desert at PO Box 13210, Palm Desert, CA 92255.

United Way of the Desert also has information on its website at www.unitedwayofthedesert.org/
