Media Kit
The Coachella Valley Water District provides domestic and irrigation water, agricultural drainage, wastewater treatment and reclamation services, regional stormwater protection, groundwater management and water conservation. It serves approximately 113,710 residential and business customers across 1,000 square miles, located primarily in Riverside County, but also in portions of Imperial and San Diego counties.

| The Coachella Canal brings Colorado River water to the Valley for agriculture irrigation, golf course and landscape irrigation, and groundwater replenishment. CVWD’s drainage system carries saline groundwater and agricultural irrigation water to the Salton Sea. CVWD photo | CVWD is the largest provider of drinking water in the Coachella Valley, serving a population of near 300,000 from Cathedral City to the Salton Sea. The water is pumped from aquifers and requires no or minimal treatment to meet state and federal water quality standards. | Increasing the supply and use of nonpotable water to reduce reliance on groundwater is a key component of CVWD’s long-term management plans. Recycled and Colorado River water is used for golf course and landscape irrigation. CVWD photo | Protecting 590 square miles from flooding, CVWD maintains the 50-mile Whitewater River Storm Channel and 135 miles of other channels that carry floodwaters from Palm Springs to the Salton Sea. CVWD photo | CVWD operates six water reclamation plants from Palm Desert to Thermal and maintains more than 1,000 miles of sewer pipelines. | CVWD has focused on efficient water use since its first days in 1918. Farmers use of micro-irrigation, water budget-based tiered rate billing systems and desert landscaping laws for golf courses help ensure reliable, affordable water will be readily available into the future. CVWD photo |
