Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) Director G. Patrick O'Dowd has been elected chair of the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) Board of Directors for Region 9, which includes approximately 50 water agencies in San Bernardino, Riverside and Imperial counties.
O'Dowd joins six other water agency representatives elected by their peers to complete the Region 9 board. As chair, he is also a member ACWA's statewide Board of Directors. He will begin his term Jan. 1, 2016.
"I look forward to representing the common interests and concerns of the agencies throughout the region and getting more involved in statewide water issues," O'Dowd said.
O'Dowd was first elected by the voters of the Coachella Valley to the CVWD Board of Directors in 2014. He represents the water district on the Salton Sea Authority and the Golf and Water Task Force.
ACWA is the largest statewide coalition of public water agencies in the country. Its 430 public agency members collectively are responsible for 90% of the water delivered to cities, farms and businesses in California.
The Coachella Valley Water District is a public agency governed by a five-member board of directors. The district provides domestic and irrigation water, agricultural drainage, wastewater treatment and reclamation services, regional storm water protection, groundwater management and water conservation. It serves approximately 108,000 residential and business customers across 1,000 square miles, located primarily in Riverside County, but also in portions of Imperial and San Diego counties.
